Gibson Custom Shop Historic 1936 – Vintage Sunburst VOS
Gibson Custom Shop Historic 1936 – Vintage Sunburst VOS
This Gibson Custom 1936 J-35 is in excellent condition, with no visual blemishes to note outside of the beautiful factory VOS treatment. The guitar sounds every bit as good as it looks, delivering incredible clarity, projection, and dynamic response. Includes the original Gibson Custom Shop hardshell case, Certificate of Authenticity.
The J-35 has a special place in Gibson's history. Originally introduced in 1936 as an evolution of Gibson's Jumbo models, the J-35 was designed to deliver serious tone and projection at an accessible price during the Great Depression. Nearly a century later, Gibson's Custom Shop has recreated that legendary instrument with an incredible level of attention to detail.
This 1936 J-35 features a thermally aged Adirondack red spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and traditional hot hide glue construction. The Adirondack top provides exceptional headroom, punch, and projection, with a powerful low end and crisp articulation that really comes alive when you dig in.
The mahogany body adds the characteristic dry, focused fundamental and strong midrange presence that makes the J-35 such an effective recording and performance guitar. It's powerful enough to hold its own in a full mix while remaining balanced and articulate when played acoustically.
The round-shoulder Advanced Jumbo body shape is comfortable to play and unmistakably Gibson, while the vintage-style nitrocellulose lacquer finish, open-slot bridge, cream-button tuners, and VOS treatment give the guitar an authentic pre-war appearance.
