Ibanez Tom Quayle TQM2 Signature – Charcoal Black Burst Flat
This Ibanez Tom Quayle TQM2 is in overall great shape with minimal visual blemishes to note. Light superficial surface scratches may be present but do not show up in photos. There are a few small dings on the neck near fret markers. Electronics work as expected and sound great. Includes the original Ibanez hardshell case and all case candy.
Designed in collaboration with jazz-fusion virtuoso Tom Quayle, the TQM2 is built around the Ibanez AZ platform but tailored specifically for Quayle’s incredibly fluid approach to hybrid picking, legato, and modern fusion playing. It combines a comfortable, fast-playing neck with a versatile HSS pickup configuration, sophisticated switching, and one of Gotoh’s best tremolo systems.
The alder body is topped with flame maple, providing a balanced tonal foundation with plenty of sustain, clarity, and harmonic detail. The Charcoal Black Burst Flat finish gives the guitar a distinctive look while letting the figuring of the maple top show through.
The roasted maple neck has been treated with Ibanez’s S-Tech process, a nitrogen-heating treatment designed to improve stability and durability while creating a smooth, broken-in feel. The AZ Oval "C" profile is comfortable in the hand, with enough substance down low while becoming more streamlined higher up the neck. The rosewood fingerboard features 22 stainless steel frets, Luminlay side dots, and abalone dot inlays.
The TQM HSS pickup configuration is a major part of what makes this guitar so versatile. The bridge TQM humbucker delivers a warm, articulate voice with plenty of body, while the TQM single-coils provide the clarity and snap needed for clean passages, chords, and more traditional Strat-style tones. Ibanez’s dyna-MIX9 switching system and Alter Switch expand the setup to nine different pickup configurations, giving the TQM2 an impressive range of usable tones.
At the other end of the guitar, the Gotoh T1802 two-point tremolo is an excellent match for the TQM2. It features machined titanium saddles, a solid-steel tremolo block, locking studs, and a snap-and-hold tremolo arm with adjustable torque. Combined with locking tuners, the result is smooth tremolo operation, excellent articulation, and impressive tuning stability.
